Task #1
Welcome to Jungle- High School in America

As a result of recent school violence parents, teachers, administrators, sociologists, and psychologist have debated solutions to problems plaguing American High Schools. Our examination has included a variety of exercises on labels as well as video clips and readings showcasing the High School experience. All too often more time is spent on placing blame then actively promoting new ways to tackle the issue of the day. Please provide your reactions to the following statements regarding the American High School.

STATEMENT #1
“High School is an artificial exaggeration of the worst values of our society.”

STATEMENT #2
“We trap students in a world of jock values and anti-intellectualism”

STATEMENT #3
“Schools need to explore solutions for effectively breaking down the barriers and promoting tolerance and understating among different groups”

STATEMENT #4

“Yesterdays outcast were powerless. Today life outside of school can be exciting and engaging

TASK #3 I am sure one of the elements of your successful high school involved teachers. In your opinion, a. What makes a great teacher? b. Which teacher in you academic career has had the greatest impact on your education?

TASK #4 In class we looked at Ballston High School's Mission statement " ……. Ballston Spa High School is committed to meeting the educational needs of each student in becoming a responsible adult. In partnership with the family and community, we strive to prepare each student intellectually, emotionally, physically and socially, while encouraging individual talents and abilities."  If you could create a new mission statement for BSHS or a new mission statement for a brand new high school, what would it be?
